José María Ortega Ortiz heads the Commercial Litigation, Bankruptcy and International Commercial Arbitration practice at Ortega Abogados.

Commercial Litigation

José María represents national and international clients in a wide range of commercial disputes, such as those related to compliance with financial leasing agreements, pure leasing, factoring, execution of trusts and collateral, as well as disputes related to construction, energy, transportation, shareholder disputes, challenges to corporate agreements, etc.

Bankruptcy Proceedings

In the field of insolvency proceedings, José María has advised both debtors and creditors in the different stages of the insolvency proceedings, including the pre-bankruptcy stages with debtors, visits, conciliation and bankruptcy. He also has extensive experience in negotiating agreements with creditors, debtors and the judicial authorities.

In the area of commercial insolvency, it has intervened, among others, in the following procedures: Banco Unión, Tribasa, Mexicana de Aviación, Oceanografía, Ingenieros Civiles Asociados, Grupo Almos, , Pounce Consulting, etc.

Arbitration

José María also has extensive experience in arbitration, both domestic and international, having participated in major arbitrations on compliance with contracts, shareholders’ disputes, energy and banking, before the Court of Arbitration of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC).
